Strength in Weakness: Letting God Carry You
There's something humbling about not being able to do everything on your own. As someone who thrives on productivity and creativity, being forced to slow down during recovery has been a challenge. I can no longer easily do simple things, like brushing my teeth, getting dressed, or feeding myself. My stubbornness has only proven to delay my progress.
I've had a lot of time to think about this and what I have come to terms with is that my strength was never mine to begin with.
When we hit moments in life where we feal weak, whether physically, emotionally, or even spiritually, God steps in. He doesn't expect us to carry the weight of the world all on our shoulders. He actually calls us to do the opposite—to lean on Him, to let Him carry us when we can't walk on our own.
Weakness isn't failure.
In business, in writing, and in life, it's easy to equate weakness with failure. But that's not how God sees it. God meets us in our weakness. He doesn't shame us for it, He strengthens us through it.
"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me." 2 Corinthians 12:9
"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak." Isaiah 40:29
Right now, my weakness is physical. I have officially reached the first goal of surviving 2 weeks doing absolutely no work, and have begun trying to do some of those simple tasks again. I can't work at my normal pace, I can't hold things like I normally can, and I am getting more and more frustrated.
Maybe you're feeling weak in another way. Maybe you're facing discouragement in your business or you're struggling with self-doubt in your writing. Maybe you're just tired.
Wherever you're feeling weak, I encourage you to take a deep breath and remind yourself that God's strength is made perfect in your weakness.
Let God carry you:
- Pray boldly-ask God to meet you where you are, even if all you can say is, "Lord, I need you."
- Rest in grace- Give yourself permission to slow down without guilt.
- Stop striving-Trust that God is working, even when you can't.
This season of healing is teaching me that I don't have to be strong all the time because God already is.
God isn't asking you to carry it all. He's offering to carry you.
Letting it all go to God, Shonda Ramsey
