One Small Step at a Time
After a long pause in my business to recover from surgery, I have been slowly stepping back into a routine. Not a full return. Not a sprint. Just small, quiet movements forward. At first, I was frustrated with how small these steps have been, and how far behind schedule I seem to be in recovery. And you know what? This is more than okay. In fact, this is exactly where God is meeting me.
If you're in a season where your energy is limited, your direction feels foggy, or you are overwhelmed by the bigger picture, this is your reminder that small steps still count. They absolutely matter. They are often the most faithful moves we can make.
Sometimes, we equate faith with giant leaps - starting a business, launching a book, making bold announcements, etc. But often, faith looks like simply showing up for an hour and doing our best.
"Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin..." Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)
God celebrates the start, the try, and the inch of obedience. He's not asking us to do it all at once, He is just asking us to trust Him with the next small step.
When we think about direction, it's tempting to want to see the bigger picture. We want to know every twist, turn, and challenge up ahead before we commit to stepping forward. That's not how faith works.
What is your one small step you can take today?
- Is it taking 30 minutes to sit and dream?
- Writing the first paragraph of the book on your heart?
- Reaching out to a potential client?
- Or could it be resting, and trusting that God is working even when you aren't?
Small doesn't mean insignificant. Pausing doesn't mean you've wit. Slow progress = still progress.
You don't have to go fast, or far, but you do have to go with Him!
Whatever season you're in, whether you're leaping forward or inching along, I want to remind you that God sees you. He's not rushing you. He's not disappointed. He delights in. your trust, your surrender, and your willingness to keep walking even if it is one small step at a time.
Beside you in the small steps, Shonda Ramsey
