How to Start a Ministry Around Your Message

How to Start a Ministry Around Your Message

When was the first time you felt called to lead a ministry? Do you remember what that calling was?

Not every ministry looks like leading from a pulpit. It could be a podcast, a book, a business, leading a community, or encouraging others. If you've ever felt the nudge to do something more with your story and to use it in a way that blesses others while bringing glory to God, then you may already be walking in ministry.

Let's take a look at how we can start a ministry using your message.

Step One: Define what ministry means to you.

Ministry is using what God gave you to serve others. Do any of these apply to you:

  • You are an encourager.
  • You are a writer, a prayer warrior, or a creative.
  • You love connecting women who feel alone.

The simple formula to remember is your message + your gifts = your ministry.

Step Two: Identify who you are called to serve.

Often, we are called to help people who are walking the path we once walked. Here are some things to consider:

  • Who are you naturally drawn to help?
  • What season of life do they represent?
  • What problem or pain point can you speak into?
  • Ministry starts by meeting and loving people right where they are.

Step Three: Start small.

  • Don't wait until everything is perfect. You can start with:
  • A weekly devotional email.
  • A podcast or YouTube channel.
  • A simple gathering of women to share stories and encouragement.

A social media account that uplifts others with truths and honesty.

Step Four: Be rooted in God's truth.

Your ministry must be grounded in God's Word. With it, it becomes life-giving. Build your content, message, and presence around scripture and prayer.

Step Five: Stay obedient (not focused on outcomes).

Ministry isn't about numbers, it's about impacting the one. Ask yourself:

  • Am I being obedient today with what God has entrusted to me?
  • Am I staying connected to the vine, or trying to do this on my own?

"I am the vine; you are the branches." John 15:5 NIV

If your message has the power to help someone else experience God's love and truth, you already have a ministry. All you need to do is say yes to leading it.
