How to Share Your Testimony with Courage and Grace
Does the thought of sharing your testimony leave you feeling exposed and vulnerable?
When you authentically share your story with vulnerability, you are not only honoring God, but also create space for others to see His faithfulness in their own lives. If you desire connecting with others, the best way to do that is by sharing more about yourself. People want to hear the messy parts in addition to the good parts. It is what makes you relatable.
So...how can we go from being afraid of oversharing to confidently sharing?
It's as easy as 1, 2, 3. Okay, that was cheesy, but you all should know by now that my lucky number is 3 and I tend to do things in 3's. This post is no different.
- Seek Guidance: Before you begin, you need to check in with God. Ask Him to guide your words, reveal the lessons He wants you to share, and open the hearts He is wanting to receive your words. A good verse to remember this is Psalm 19:14—"May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer."
- Be Imperfect: Your testimony doesn't need to be polished or perfect. The raw, real, unfiltered moments touch hearts the most.. Don't shy away from messy or unfinished parts. Remember 2 Corinthians 12:9—"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me."
- Speak From Your Heart: While it's tempting to focus on details and timelines or outlines, don't forget to share how you felt. Vulnerability comes when you allow others to see the emotions behind your journey. They want to feel the fear, doubt, joy, and relief you experienced. Let them hear your heart. Proverbs 16:23-24 is a good reminder—"The hearts of the wise make their mouths prudent, and their lips promote instruction. Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones."
If God has placed it on your heart to share your testimony, trust that He has also equipped you to do so. Lean into Him for strength. Speak with love and grace. Lead by example. Be YOU. You never know who needs to hear your story.
