Healing Takes Time: A Lesson in Patience
Patience is not my strong suit.
As an entrepreneur, creative, and someone who loves to be productive, waiting feels like the opposite of progress. In the quiet, I can't stop thinking about the many things I feel I need to be doing as I wonder if I'll ever get caught up once my season of healing comes to an end.
It has become apparent to me that this season of healing isn't just physical healing. God has brought me into this season to address emotional and spiritual areas that require attention as well. One thing I am discovering is healing doesn't happen overnight. It's a process, one that requires trust, rest, and patience (a whole lot of it).
This week, as I continue recovering from surgery, I'm reminded that God often does His greatest work in the waiting. Healing isn't just about getting back to work or checking off another milestone, it's about allowing God's timing to take precedence over our own.
Even in my healing, I have the choice to fill my time with things that distract me from being in communication with God or drawing nearer to Him daily. I have been brutally honest with Him and have not held back any of my frustrations or concerns as I lay it all out for Him to hear. In return, He has filled me with peace.
Have you ever prayed for healing and felt like nothing was happening? Maybe you've been working toward a goal, but progress felt slow. Perhaps you are in a season where everything seems to be on pause as God has gone silent. It's frustrating, right?!?
Here's what I am learning:
God never wastes the waiting.
"But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience." Romans 8:25
"The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still." Exodus 14:14
Healing takes time. And while I may want to rush this process, I have to trust that God is working behind the scenes, even when I do not see immediate results.
Instead of resisting the waiting, what if we leaned into it?
What if we used this time to:
- Strengthen our faith through prayer and scripture
- Reflect on what God is teaching us in this season
- Plan and dream for the future without rushing the present
- Draw closer to God and build our relationship together
- Work on becoming the person God created us to be
- Collapse in His loving arms and allow Him to hold us as we weep
Patience isn't just about enduring the wait, it's about trusting that God's timing is better than ours.
So, if you are in a season of waiting, whether for healing, clarity, or a breakthrough, take a deep breath. God's got this. And He's got you, too.
