A Simple Creative Reset to Refresh Your Mind

A Simple Creative Reset to Refresh Your Mind

Last week we talked about organizing our projects as we near the end of the year to prepare for the New Year. This week, we are going to talk about what we can do to have a simple creative reset that will help us refresh our minds.

I don't know about you, but this time of year is both inspirational and overwhelming. With my last vendor show attended, I felt relief yesterday when I could simply rest. I took full advantage of it.

As a creative, I have pushed myself so hard all year that December feels like I've entered survival mode. There comes a time when we need to hit the reset button so we can refill our now empty creative tank. I love doing it this time of year because it gives me the chance to be more present with family and friends during the holidays as I gather inspiration and motivation without expectation to perform.

While I may not be creating as much for work right now, I am still creating those personal touches to include on my gift wrapping, handmade gifts, and I designed our Christmas cards again this year. These are fun projects I am enjoying putting together at my own pace, without a deadline attached.

Still, creating these things has created clutter in my spaces. The glue gun and glue sticks are on the dining room table next to the ribbon and glitter. I have several vinyl projects going on this year for gifts, so there are stacks of vinyl waiting to be cut and pressed onto garments in my office. And because I am a leader in an upcoming girl's retreat, I have beads and string waiting to be transformed into one of a kind creations for the agape sitting on my entryway table.

As I walked by this morning, I felt overwhelmed and decided that this week would be a great week for a simple creative reset to refresh my mind. Where there is visible clutter, there is also mental clutter.

Here are the things I am going to do to help with this:

  1. Clear my spaces - I will set my timer for 15 minutes to do a timed tidy up each day until it's done
  2. Release what didn't get done - Not everything is meant for this season. I have to be okay with letting go of what I cannot get done.
  3. Reconnecting with my purpose - Forward thinking about what my purpose is and how I can incorporate it into the New Year is what occupies my brain space.
  4. Choose one small step forward - Not a goal, just a step. This keeps me on track to complete the projects I hope to before the holidays come.

This month will come and go before we know it. Being intentional about how we choose to reset and refresh will help us get through the holidays with a little less stress.

What's one thing you want to reset before 2026?
